Reminder! Summer Programme No.9 - Glasson Dock

Our ninth summer outing is tomorrow Monday 17th July to Glasson Dock.

Meet on the Glasson Dock car park LA2 0BT at 7pm.

The village of Glasson has a small selection of shops and there are excellent walks in the surrounding countryside and along the coast of Morecambe Bay.

The village is linked to Lancaster by the Lune Estuary Cycleway. There are walks right round the harbour and a large public car park.

The harbour at Glasson originally opened in 1787, following the demise of Lancaster as a port, and was at its height the largest port in the northwest, importing cotton, sugar, spices and slaves from Africa and the Indies. The Lancaster Canal was important in ensuring that cargo landed at the port could be quickly distributed into the heart of industrial Lancashire. Glasson is still a thriving port handling over 150,000 tonnes of cargo annually.

The suggestion for the evening is photography of the boats - look for unusual or historical details on & around them and the dock.

Everyone is welcome.
