PAGB Print Champions 2025

At Chorley PS, we tend to think of ourselves as quite a strong print club so it has been frustrating that we have not been able to win the PAGB national print championship, but there is some very strong competition within the UK. Well on Saturday, we sorted that and came equal first with Arden and Smethwick. This means, of course, that Chorley PS now holds both the print championship and PDI championship titles which is an absolutely fantastic achievement by the Club and its members.

The format of the competition is 1 round consisting of 12 images that all 36 clubs took part in with the top eight participating in the Final and the others competing for the Plate. Our 12 images produced 4 prints at 15 points each, 4 at 14 points each and 4 at 13 points each which put us 1 point clear at the top. The final required 15 prints of which no more than 10 could’ve been used in round one. This is where it gets quite strategic as the small team selecting the images for the final had to assess any preferences that the judges were showing for a particular style of print. Sport had been quite popular, but we didn’t have any in our bank of 50 prints. We selected all the 14s and 15s again and decided to swap out the 13s which was a little bit of a risk but to win things sometimes you have to take that risk. There was quite a bit of discussion about which Prints we would add to the retained ones and often we had to choose between two images which was a challenge because they were all of a great standard. There are restrictions on the types and numbers of images that must make up our selection and a frustration to us is that we are limited to a maximum of four nature prints in the final. As a Club with a lot of very good nature workers it did mean that sadly some were not represented, even though they had award-winning images but on the day we have to make a selection that we think will score best in front of those judges.

So it’s a big well done to all Chorley PS members, not just the ones whose prints were selected, but all those who have helped to raise the standard and keep us all on our toes.
