Welcome: from Will Stead - President
A warm welcome from Chorley Photographic Society, one of the UK’s premier photography clubs. We were founded back in 1896 when photography was young and we are still at the forefront of local photography!

Photography is an exciting hobby and when people buy their first digital camera they frequently look for guidance, inspiration or how to take better photographs. Chorley Photographic Society can provide that guidance and help and our members have a wide array of skills and knowledge, ranging from the “keen to learn” beginner through to the professional.

We are committed to the advancement of photography as a craft and an art form, while promoting friendship, cooperation and the exchange of ideas among members. We achieve this by focusing on three key areas:

Firstly, we run an engaging and first class programme of events, which include sessions on at least a weekly basis for our members. These include:
  • Regular Monday evening meetings with visiting lecturers, competitions, presentations and social gatherings.
  • Practical Tuesdays, which are tutorials based on the use of equipment and software tools, such as Photoshop.
  • Our Critique Group meets to support members wishing to improve their standard of photography and enter images into International competitions.
  • During the Summer months, we run a full schedule of outdoor photography shoots, at least weekly.
Secondly, we work closely with the local community on a range of activities to promote photography in the community. We have recently held exhibitions with other local groups and Chorley Council, with whom we have a strong relationship.

Finally, we compete in both National and International photography competitions where Chorley Photographic Society is building a reputation for excellence. We are consistently in the top 10 clubs in the UK and the top 20 in the world.

I invite you to join us and have fun with your photography!

Will Stead

PAGB CHAMPIONSHIP SUCCESS
ChorleyPS is proud to have gained 2nd place in the PAGB PDI Championships, held at Warwick Arts Centre, and won the Silver Medal! See the the NEWS…page for more details. Thanks to all Club Members involved.
INTO THE RECORDS in 2013 !
For the first time since the competitions started, one club currently holds the trophies for the L&CPU PDI Knockout, the L&CPU Annual Club Competition and the ICPA PDI Knockout.

That club is ChorleyPS! To win any of these competitions is a significant achievement, but to win all of them in the same season is simply outstanding, and a historic first!

…and ChorleyPS has just gained the Silver Medal at the PAGB PDI Championships, in Warwick!

About
“The Chorley Photographic and Sketching Society”was first established in 1896, and has run without a break, through two World Wars and a minor skirmish about Digital Imagery. It emerged unscathed from all its adventures — although we don’t do much sketching these days…!
It is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain through its membership of the Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Union.
It’s a Non-Profit making organisation — and a Registered Charity (Number: 701819)

Practical Tuesdays
From time to time we hold extra 2-hour sessions, which take place on occasional Tuesdays. These are designed to complement our excellent Monday Night programme of Lectures and Competitions. They are practical sessions, arranged on topics requested in advance by members. There’s usually a talk, followed by refreshments and an hour of practical work. Members usually need to bring their cameras, and sometimes, their laptops!
A small charge may be made to cover the room hire.
You can get a map from the “ABOUT” Menu, and Members can get further details and download any course notes from the “MEMBERS’ AREA“.
